Why Ascension Genesys Hospital?

The PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency Program at Ascension Genesys Hospital has a wide variety of rotations offered. The rotations offered will allow me to focus on my two main areas of interest, cardiology and infectious disease, as well as gain experience in other areas I have less exposure to. I really enjoy the opportunities provided with precepting IPPE and APPE students as well as the teaching opportunities afforded by participating in the PEDALS program. I am confident that being a resident at Ascension Genesys will expand my clinical knowledge and skill sets and enable me to become a knowledgeable and confident healthcare provider.

Matthew Rico, PharmD

Matt Rico is from St. Clair Shores, MI. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Ferris State University and continued with Ferris State University’s College of Pharmacy to earn his Doctor of Pharmacy degree. He has specific pharmacy practice interests in critical care, infectious disease, cardiology, and emergency medicine. During his free time, Matt likes to play/watch volleyball, basketball, and softball. His favorite thing to do is watch college basketball and travel to different collegiate venues to see NCAA games.

Why Ascension Genesys Hospital?

I completed three rotations at Ascension Genesys during pharmacy school, including an introductory pharmacy practice experience (IPPE) in hospital pharmacy and advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPE) in critical care and institutional pharmacy practice. Throughout my rotations, I was always thankful for my preceptors’ willingness to tailor each experience to what I wanted, and I was allowed to develop autonomy in my experiences. The PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency Program at Ascension Genesys Hospital offers a wide range of the practice interest areas that I would like to focus on as well as many others that will make me a well-rounded pharmacist. I am confident that the pharmacy team has my best interests in mind and will truly make this year a unique experience.
