Didactic Schedule

Educational Experience 

Our program mission is to assure that at the completion of the three-year training, our graduates are equipped with the knowledge, experience and technical skills to succeed professionally whether they choose academic or private practice, with or without further fellowship training. Our graduates will be expected to have the maturity, interpersonal skills and ethical standards to become respected and productive members of the medical profession. 

We created our didactic curriculum to meet these goals by addressing all areas of competencies set by the ACGME. 

IM specific didactics are administered every Thursday afternoon from 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. During this four-hour block, different types of didactics are administered by either IM core faculty (weekly MKSAP quizzes, MKSAP board style questions, preventive medicine lectures) or invited speakers from IM subspecialties. Some of the sessions (Journal Club, M&M, Article Review and Case of the month) are conducted by residents under the direct supervision of IM core faculty who are always present during IM didactic sessions.

PGY 3 Board Review – Monday 2:30-5:30 p.m. from January till the end of June 

Step 3 Board Review – Monday 4:45-5.45 p.m. for PGY 1, August-January 

Schedules for specific resident and faculty assignments are done by the chief resident and associate program director, respectively. The schedule is distributed at the beginning of the academic year via email.

Morning Report is scheduled every Monday and Tuesday from 7-8 AM. The primary focus of these educational sessions is to teach medical students and interns basic patient management skills. Morning Reports are run by IM seniors and fellows.

Congdon Lecture Series – 2nd Wednesday of each month

The Congdon Lecture Series brings 6 certified physicians to speak on various topics each month.  This educational opportunity is currently being held virtually.

The Statewide Campus System (SCS) of MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) provides educational programs and opportunities for pre-doctoral through postdoctoral, Osteopathic interns, residents, and fellows in the State of Michigan.  Full day SCS conferences are held on Thursdays, every 6 weeks (on average).  IM regular didactics are cancelled on these days.
